Small Cable Hat Created by Wendy Goldner

About 2 ounces of yarn for complete hat. I used Pound of Love left over from my stash.

Circular knitting needles 5mm (US 8) – 16 inch

1 set double poined needles 5 mm (US 8)

Cable hook

Yarn needles

Stitch marker (sm)

 

Note: Hat is worked in the rounnd. As stitches are decreased and no longer fit on circular needles, divide them on 3 double pointed needles to complete.

Small cable over 2 sts. CF2 – Sl 1 st to cable needle (cn) and hold in front, k1, then k1 from cn.

P2tog – purl 2 stitches together

K – knit

P – purl

Cast on 81stitches, join first and last stitch, making sure not to twist the stitches.

Place a stitch marker at the join

Work 5 rows 1×1 rib (k1, p1)

Set up row: K2, P2 around.

1.* CF2, P2* repeat * to* to marker

2 * K2, P2* repeat * to * to marker

Repeat t hese 2 rows until piece reaches 5 ½ inches or 6 inches

Decrease Rows

  1. *CF2, P2, CF2, P2tog* repeat *to* to marker (70 sts)
  2. *K2, P2, K2, P1* repeat * to * to marker
  3. *CF2, P2tog, CF2, P1* repeat * to * to marker (60)
  4. *K2, P1* repeat * to * to marker
  5. *CF2, (P2tog) twice * repeat * to * to marker (40)
  6. *K2, P2 * repeat * to * to marker
  7. *CF2, P2tog * repeat * to * to marker (30)
  8. *K2, P1 * repeat * to * to marker
  9. *CF2, (P2tog) twice * repeat * to * to marker (20)
  10. *K2, P2 * repeat * to * to marker
  11. * CF2, P2tog * repeat * to * to marker (15)

Cut yarn leaving long tail. Thread yarn through remaining 15 sts and secure. Weave in ends.i
